When a report of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation involving an adult is made to DCF, an Initial Assessment is made to determine if DCF should become involved.
Reports of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation which met criteria for DCF involvement are assigned to an APS social worker investigation. The safety of the adult is assessed by completing a risk and safety assessment. Upon completion of the investigation of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation, a case finding decision is made of either unsubstantiated or substantiated. All APS cases meeting criteria for assignment are assessed to determine whether services are needed. This assessment may result in vulnerable adults being provided or referred to services such as home care services, guardianship, or other services available in the community.
