Aged Out Medical Program

Effective Jan. 1, 2014, those who have aged out of foster care at 18, are eligible to receive KanCare benefits until age 26. Previously, the cutoff age was 21.

Young adults who have aged out of foster care and are eligible for aged out medical coverage are responsible for reporting the following changes immediately to DCF:

  • If you obtain other medical coverage
  • If you leave the state of Kansas
  • If you are in jail or prison

For assistance in completing the KanCare benefits application, contact the DCF Independent Living Coordinator in your region. Ask for the IL Coordinator when you call.
